Mechanical properties of fabrics for outdoor sleeping bags

Taking 20 commercially available outdoor clothing fabrics as the research object, the tensile properties, tear properties and abrasion resistance of the fabrics were tested. The results show that:

Tensile properties

The tensile fracture resistance of laminated fabric and high-density polyester fabric is very good. The breaking strength is generally greater than 2000N. The tensile fracture property of coated fabric is moderate. The tensile resistance of high-density nylon fabric is poor.

Tearing properties

High-density fabrics generally have good tear resistance. The maximum tear strength exceeds 21N. The tear resistance of coated fabrics is relatively poor. Among laminated fabrics, PU and TPU fabrics have average tear resistance. PTFE laminated fabric has very poor tear resistance.

Wear resistance

Except for a small part of high-density fabrics, the wear resistance test times with wool abrasive for the rest of high-density fabrics are all ≥10000 times. Among laminated fabrics, the wear resistance of PU laminated fabric is very good. The wear resistance test times with sandpaper abrasive reach more than 2000 times. The wear resistance of TPU laminated fabric is moderate. PTFE laminated fabric is not wear-resistant. The wear resistance of coated fabrics is worse than that of laminated fabrics. Among them, PVC coated fabric is more wear-resistant than ordinary printed coated fabric.
