Evaluation of Waterproof and Moisture Permeable Performance of Outdoor Sleeping Bag Fabrics
As the demand for outdoor exploration activities continues to grow and the overall quality requirements for outdoor activities increase, the outdoor equipment industry has developed rapidly. Outdoor sleeping bags, as equipment suitable for both men and women, young and old, and usable in various environments such as the wilderness and mountains, have seen a growing market demand. Due to the need for outdoor sleeping bags to be used in special environments, the fabric of sleeping bags has high requirements for water resistance and moisture permeability. There are many types of fabrics for outdoor sleeping bags on the market, mainly including high-density fabrics, coated fabrics, and laminated fabrics. High-density fabrics are mainly made of polyester and nylon, coated fabrics are mainly PVC and PU coated fabrics, and laminated fabrics include PU, TPU, and PTFE laminated fabrics.
Currently, there are many studies on the preparation methods and properties of waterproof and moisture-permeable coatings and films in China, as well as on the water repellency and moisture permeability of ordinary cotton and wool, polyester and nylon fabrics. However, there has been no overall comparison and analysis of the performance of fabrics specifically for outdoor sleeping bags. Due to the lack of data support for the waterproof and moisture-permeable properties of outdoor sleeping bag fabrics in the market, this article investigates 20 existing outdoor sleeping bag fabrics on the market, aiming to test and evaluate the surface water repellency, water resistance, and moisture permeability of the fabrics, to provide some guidance for the preparation and selection of outdoor sleeping bag fabrics.
For the surface moisture resistance of 20 kinds of fabrics
The surface moisture resistance of uncalendered high-density fabrics and coated fabrics with smaller coating thickness is poor, and the water resistance rating is ≤ 3. The best surface moisture resistance rating of coated fabrics and high-density calendered fabrics reaches ≤ 4.
For the water resistance of 20 kinds of fabrics
The water resistance of high-density fabrics is the worst, with a minimum of only 11.33 kPa. The water resistance of coated fabrics is slightly better than that of high-density fabrics, less than 20 kPa. The water resistance of coated fabrics is significantly better than that of coated and high-density fabrics, with a maximum hydrostatic pressure of 55 kPa.
For the moisture permeability of 20 kinds of fabrics
The moisture permeability of high-density fabrics is generally higher than that of coatings and coated fabrics, with a maximum of 6,000 g/(m · d) or more; the moisture permeability of PVC coated fabrics in coated fabrics is less than 2000 g/(m 'd), and the moisture permeability is poor: the moisture permeability of PTE two-layer coated fabrics in coated fabrics is the best, and the moisture permeability is about 4 000g/(m' d).
