The earliest Geely suits originated from the camouflage of 19th century Scottish Highland gamekeepers, called Ghillie Suit (from Gaelic gille, meaning servant),It's actually a cloak made of cotton or linen.

Its primary function is to protect against wind and cold. When it is necessary to hide, the gamekeeper will tie a lot of broken cloth strips, twine or burlap around the cloak.

It forms leaves so that it can more effectively approach and capture poachers.

The Gilly suit was first used in the military during the Second Boer War (1899-1902).

In 1900, Lord Lovat recruited gamekeepers and deer hunters from the Scottish Highlands for military training.

The Scottish Highland Regiment was formed and then sent to South Africa to fight in the Second Boer War.

These soldiers were called Lovat Scouts because they had extensive hunting experience before the war and were good at shooting, hiding and tracking.

The commander asked them to use the Geely suit to accurately shoot the enemy, track and monitor or reconnaissance enemy movements, and play the dual role of reconnaissance and sniper.

In October 1916, the Lovat Scout became the first Sharpshoter unit of the British Army.

The Scottish Highland Regiment resumed using the Gili suit during World War I and used it as a specialized sniper's equipment.

The Scottish Highland Regiment was the first known military unit to use the Gili suit.

It was also the first military unit to use Gillette-style snipers and surveillance tactics in warfare.

The Geely suit used by the Lovat scouts became a model in the history of military sniping, and this basic Geely camouflage concept is still used by snipers from various countries today.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between Geely clothing and camouflage clothing?

A: The traditional multi-color camouflage clothing uses patches of different colors to separate the human body shape to achieve camouflage. The camouflage pattern is presented in a two-dimensional plane form, but the color and contour of the camouflage pattern will form a strong contrast in different light, which is easy to attract visual attention. Geely clothing uses countless interlaced cloth strips or cloth pieces to form a three-dimensional stereo with multiple layers of different brightness and chromaticity, blurring the edge contours, allowing the wearer to achieve the best fusion state with the ambient color and the shape of the ambient object.
